SHAPESPLAY
A journey CUT BY LASER
James Mayall creates one-off works using laser-cut acrylic. Every piece is an edition of one - individually designed, cut, assembled, and never repeated.
His practice moves between bold, graphic compositions and more minimal, abstract forms. Clean lines, sharp contrasts, and contrasting inlaid materials define the work, whether it’s made for the wall, the table, or somewhere less expected.
What ties it all together is a focus on clarity, craft, and character - each piece designed to stand on its own.
FORTHCOMING EXHIBITION
James will be taking part in the 2025 edition of Coastal Currents, an annual celebration of arts and culture across East Sussex. Based in Hastings and St Leonards but encompassing Battle, Rye, Robertsbridge, Eastbourne, Fairlight, Bexhill and many other towns and villages in between. Featuring Open Studios throughout the region and a host of events, exhibitions and performances, the festival has an open submissions format and allows submissions from all disciples of creativity including and actively encouraging experimental, R&D work public art and multi-mediums.
